I've never felt so relaxed and peaceful as I do on a tropical holiday. I love the tropics. The lush green plants beaded with condensation. The heat as it smacks you in the face as you walk across the tarmac. The pungent, woody smell of the undergrowth. The only problem with a tropical holiday is I never want to leave!
In 2016, standing barefoot on a wet boardwalk surrounded by Palms, Bromeliads, and variegated Ginger I vowed to recreate the feeling of a tropical resort at home so I could always wake up and feel like I was on holiday. Being surrounded by tropical plants reminds me that there is that little part of me I can connect to whenever I need.
My Ouma was an incredible woman, her passion for plants and gardening was prolific. Every second Saturday our whole family had to garden for 6 hours something us kids all dreaded immensely. I would work alongside Ouma and pretend to understand what she was talking about as she discussed perennials and bulbs and how to correctly re-pot a cymbidium orchid, at the time it was painfully boring, however these days I would kill for a six hour gardening sesh with her.
